Each participant will be making their own shamanic style drum and matching beater during the workshop!

The cost of the workshop includes everything needed to make a 12”, 16", or 18” single head drum and matching beater. This includes a maple hoop, a rawhide round for the drum head, elk rawhide lacing, and locally sourced driftwood sticks collected 'in a good way' for the beater.

Please read the following excerpt from Black Elk Speaks:

"I should perhaps tell you here why the drum is especially sacred and important to us. It is because the round form of the drum represents the whole universe, and its steady strong beat is the pulse, the heart, throbbing at the center of the universe. It is the voice of Wakan Tanka (Great Spirit), and this sound stirs us and helps us to understand the mystery and power of all things.” Black Elk, Oglala Sioux holy man

Candlelight Restorative Yoga

Exchange: $25

Join Melissa for a 90 minute restorative yoga practice for the ultimate evening of relaxation and stress relief!

When the pace of life is fast and our minds and bodies are always on the go, we need to take time to slow down and recharge. Restorative yoga balances out a hectic lifestyle and has an enormous capacity to heal physical and mental symptoms that are so often brought on by stress.

Restorative yoga is a deeply meditative and relaxing practice that is easily accessible by everyone. The practice consists of holding seated and lying poses, fully supported with props, for 5-10 minutes in order to allow the body to fully absorb the physical and energetic benefits of the pose.

Considered a “passive” practice, yet the benefits of restorative yoga are impressive: relieve stress, boost immune system, facilitate healing, enhance mood, still the mind, increase flexibility, balance the nervous system and sleep better.

In a candlelit studio, we will quiet the mind and body. This extended practice will allow us to settle back to our natural state of ease and bliss. Fill your self-care cup with this relaxing and rejuvenating practice

Master Practice with Gina Lee of Bearfoot Yoga Center

$30

This practice will include subtle energetic practices and pranayama (breath work) for clearing out stuck or stagnant energy along with a rigorous physical practice to get your blood pumping and sweat flowing.

The philosophical focus for this master practice will be in the practice of the niyamas, the internal observances such as tapas (spiritual acceptance of pain of all kinds without causing any more), saucha (purification, cleanliness), santosha (contentment) svadyaya (self-study) and isvara pranidhana (surrender to a higher power).

An extended Savasana will be included to reset and restore your nervous system and awaken with fresh connection to your body's needs as we fire up for the approaching Summer solstice.

While yoga practitioners of any level are welcome to practice it is recommended that you have a strong sense of your body's limits so you don't push yourself too hard. Many variations can be offered to make it appropriate to your level of practice and flexibility.

Do this enough and our Spirit leaves us entirely. In this Forrest Yoga “core strengthening” workshop you will learn how how to shift from “I can’t” to “I can” and drive your Spirit back home. You will discover what you can actually do, even if it feels insignificant. Moments of success, no matter how small, are the building blocks to self-respect, self-esteem and undeniable strength— nourishment for our Spirit.

Yin Yoga + Loving Kindness Meditation

Exchange:  $25.00     REGISTER HERE

Spring is a time RENEWAL and new growth. This season calls your innate creativity to awaken and the yoga practice targets the liver and gallbladder meridians. These meridians enhance our physical health, but also boost our liver chi to harmonize our emotions and overall energy flow.

The element associated with liver is WOOD - the function of wood is movement, expansion, activity, change, it is the home of new ideas, new thoughts, transformation and hope. This YIN sequence will focus on restoring balance, detox the organ systems, nourish the digestive system, release tension and stress from spine and hips, and "deep-clean" the energy channels.

The emotion associated with the Liver & Gallbladder (and Wood element) is anger and frustration. Throughout the class we will be threading in a Loving Kindness Meditation from Jack Kornfield's "The Art of Forgiveness, Lovingkindness and Peace" evoking love and strength beginning with ourselves and extending the wish for well-being and happiness to all beings. A lovely healing and heart centered practice. Each attendee will receive a FREE Rose Quartz crystal to stimulate the heart.

Soothing music will promote deep relaxation and soothe the nervous system. Young Living Essential Oils will be used to enhance the therapeutic benefits of the yin practice, reduce stress and transition deeper into a deeper state of relaxation to surrender physically and mentally.
